Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a picture of questions that I get asked often taken from the internet. These questions are generic in nature but not breed specific.

My Answers and Philosophy

My Breeding Philosophy is not off of the internet. My priority is to Protect the Kittens. This is my #1.

Each point listed above is out of context and begs the need to be clarified for my cattery and opinion:

  1. Firstly, I started breeding in 2006 before testing even started so to “test” for HCM (the one Ragdoll genetic issue to be concerned about – because as a matter of fact, PKD is not a Ragdoll issue, it is a Persian, etc., breed issue) we had to wait until six months old and then did an expensive echocardiogram. Back then, if the vet even heard any murmur or any abnormality that was it for a potential breeding cat. My breeding parents are tested and cleared as double negative for HCM “nn.” * Beware if a Ragdoll breeder tests for PKD, they’re either brand-new or don’t know enough about this breed or are backyard breeders that mix Ragdoll with Persian?
  2. The litters are born in my bedroom and raised running around under foot. From the moment they are born, I’m holding, kissing and talking to them. They are litter box trained usually by 5-6 weeks old then they’re running around 24/7 in their play area. My adorable grandchildren and grand dog Oz visit weekly and potential new “families” come to see them in person when they’re old enough and the timing is right.
  3. A one hundred percent 💯 Three Year Genetic/Hereditary Health Guarantee- but must follow contract requirements.
  4. Ragdollkitty Kittens begin socializing with me and my family as early as 3 weeks old. Mine must be two months before they leave their Mothers which is apx 9 weeks old and at least two pounds. They must be trained and weaned. Most kittens fall into this category. Those who keep their kittens 12-14 weeks are altering them first. I forbid this. It voids my health guarantee to alter them before six months. They’re big-boned structured cats that need their growth hormones to have a pain free long life span. Why are AKC puppies spared until 2 Years old but kittens aren’t? As if cats don’t need to watch for hip dysplasia? No.
    1.  I’m happy to hold onto your new kitten until you feel comfortable – up to 14 weeks – if you wish the kitten to be here any additional time, there may be an additional fee. The soonest the baby can leave is two months\two pounds.
  5. Each kitten has been given their up to date killed virus vaccines. If a vet visit is called for, I do not hesitate. I require the new family’s vet do a “three day healthy kitten checkup” so the health of the baby is clear at/on pick up time. We don’t have pests and if we did we would treat. None go home with bugs or worms.
  6. My cats are all here and love visitors! The website is pretty good at explaining my business model and because I was getting this “list” I decided to add another section hopefully helping save some time so I’m not answering the same internet questions over and over…you know I have little mouths to feed! 🥰

I hope this answers and clarifies all of the above “Internet Questions to Ask a Breeder”.
